Getting better is often a simple discipline, but rarely an easy one.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET BETTER?
If you are a chronic hurrier, it will probably take too long for you. So , learn to slow down, as that is often one of the first steps in getting well. If you are a chronic worrier you may have to negotiate with your chiropractor and set very specific goals for recovery.
The main job: When vertebrae have been a little bit out of place for a long time it is hard for the muscles to hold them in the new position. The muscles tire quickly and the weight of the load (head and other body parts) overcomes their strength. To make the changes last a person has to learn how to rest the involved muscles BEFORE they are overtired.
Holding an adjustment (or maintaining a remission) means taking, say, six steps forward. Losing it means taking, say, five steps backwards. A gain of one step is still good.
The aim is to hold the adjustment for longer and longer periods. That means feeling good for longer and longer.
If a person is readjusted soon after losing an adjustment, the next adjustment tends to hold longer.
The sad-glad cycles: Losing an adjustment can be depressing, especially if you forget how good you felt when holding the adjustment. Friends or family sometimes remember the good times better than the patient. That is why we like our patients to be supported by friends or relatives who know about the glad and sad experiences you will have on the road to recovery.
The good-bad stories: Our archives are well stocked with evidence of successful recoveries. But they also show failures. Some of the failures arose because we simply were not good enough to solve the technical problems, others because the patient was too distressed, or too lacking in knowledge of our method, or too short of time or money to persevere with treatment.
The partnership: So, we do not promise miracles, But after 40 years of practice, we can say that where a patient is willing to work with us, sharing the effort involved, chiropractic is a well tried way to better health.
Finally, when you need a chiropractic adjustment, nothing else will do.
